Getting Involved

NAAPO

The North American Astrophysical Observatory relies on help from our friends and volunteers. Whether you are interested in helping NAAPO as a side-line supporter or an active volunteer, there are a number of ways that you can get involved.

Public Meetings

NAAPO holds public meetings for volunteers and those interested in volunteering on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays of each month at 10:00 AM (EST). If you're interested in learning more about NAAPO and you are in the Columbus area duing one of our meetings, please stop by for a visit! (Meeting Directions)

Volunteering with NAAPO

At NAAPO, we are a fully volunteer organization. That means that NAAPO staff members donate time and expertise to further our mission. For that, we are grateful. We need more volunteers that have any of these attributes:

- Experience in radio astronomy or other radio technologies
- Knowlege of computer programming, networking, and web technology
- Familiarity of electrical engineering
- Creativity and marketing ability
- A passion for science and technology!

If any of these sound like you, then we'd like to welcome you to our team! Although we prefer volunteers within reasonable commuting distance to Columbus, Ohio, our group consists of several, more distant individuals who are able to regularly contribute to our efforts via e-mail, chat, and video conferencing.

For more information about volunteering with NAAPO, please contact us.

Financial Donations

NAAPO is a not-for-profit organization. We don't sell goods or services and, as a result, rely 100% on the financial contributions of our friends. You can make a donation to NAAPO by personal check, money order, or securely via Paypal. On request, we will happily provide you with a receipt of your tax-deductable donation!

For your donation at specified levels, NAAPO would like to thank you by sending you a sewn Flag of Earth! See our Flag of Earth website for more information.

Donating Equipment

NAAPO (North American AstroPhysical Observatory) is run entirely by volunteers. Much of the computer and other electronic equipment which we use has been donated by our volunteers or by other individuals and companies. Most of the money which we receive in donations goes toward purchases of antenna-related hardware for the Argus project. Therefore, there is little money remaining for purchase of computer and other electronic equipment, either new or used.

We are in need of used but fairly recent PCs, electronic test equipment, components, and parts for our lab (of course, new equipment, components and parts would be gratefully accepted). For example, PC components would include such hardware as hard drives, Ethernet devices (cards, hubs, routers), sound cards, video cards, DVD/CD drives/burners, monitors, keyboards, pointing devices (mouse or trackball), etc. If you have a late-model PC, any component used in or with a PC, or electronic test equipment, or hardware (including coax cable) that you would like to donate to our cause, please contact us!
